Behind Rebel Lines

Hey guys! I am really sorry that I haven't been blogging lately! Here is a book that I have just recently finished for school, because we've been studying the Civil War. I hope you enjoy this review! ;)

Behind Rebel lines is a true story about a young girl during the Civil War named Emma Edmonds, who wanted to do more for the Union.
Emma was born in Canada, but ran away from home when she was 16, because when her mother died he became meaner. She couldn't stand it any longer, so she went to the United States, and when the war started, she decided to join the Union to be a field nurse, but the one problem was that she had to pretend to be a man! So that's what she did. Her new name was Franklin Thompson, and she did pretty well keeping her secret until a year later. She had become really good friends with the chaplain's wife in the camp, but she never told her she was a girl! She couldn't keep the secret any longer, so she went and she confessed everything! But luckily, Mrs. Butler promised to keep her secret!
Later on, the news came that the spies that they had at the Confederate camps, had been shot!Cornell McClellan was calling for volunteers to go to the confederate camps, and be a spy! So Emma volunteered! Through the next several months she pretends to be many different characters, and there are many close calls.
Emma becomes ill with malaria, and she applied for leave, but they needed her in the camp. So she left without permission! After she is better, there is a notice in the paper that they are looking for a “Franklin Thompson”!
She finally went back to Canada, and marries her childhood sweetheart! In her later years she wrote a book telling of her adventures!
I thought that the book was very well written and over all a great story!  Hopfully you will enjoy it too!
